SHORTMAN STUDIO PODCASTS

Shortman Studios produces three original podcasts, A Positive Jam, Voices of Migration | Voces Migratorias, and The Razor’s Edge

A Positive Jam

A Positive Jam is a podcast dedicated to breaking down great albums track by track. Our second season focuses on The Hold Steady’s breakthrough album, Separation Sunday.

The Hold Steady‘s 2004 debut, Almost Killed Me, was a tour de force, a statement of intent, and a killer party. They followed that up by adding a keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist, exploring the studio space, and applying their renewed confidence on epic scale. The result? Separation Sunday, a breakthrough that saw the band maintain their edgy outlook while adding a sense of epic both lyrically and musically. This was the album that launched The Hold Steady from ‘secret favorite’ to ‘best bar band in the world.’

Season 1 hosts Mike Taylor and Daniel Shvartsman are joined by Shawn Westfall, who will be leading this season. Regular guests are expected throughout the season as we aim to also keep our edge while expanding on our efforts. The season will again break down Separation Sunday track by track, to understand the highs, the lows, and the banks of the Mississippi River.

A Positive Jam season 2 debuts on January 6, 2021. Subscribe to A Positive Jam on:

The Razor’s Edge

The Razor’s Edge is an investing podcast that combines a prop trader’s viewpoint and deep-dive fundamental research to provide a unique take on the markets. The show is co-hosted by Akram’s Razor, a trader, tech enthusiast, meat lover, Marvel fanboy,  battle tested activist short-seller and (sometimes) humble market servant, and by Daniel Shvartsman, a long-time editor and director for Seeking Alpha who has heard thousands of investing pitches and ideas, and has had a front-row seat to see how these things play out.

The duo start with a theme or idea from Akram’s investing, then break it down to understand what goes into the idea, what could go wrong, and what else investors and traders need to know. They also interview industry leaders, executives, and other investors to get a wider perspective. The show has thousands of listeners around the world.

The Razor’s Edge is published on Tuesdays. Subscribe to The Razor’s Edge on:

Voices of Migration | Voces Migratorias

What stories do we tell about movement? About leaving and arriving, about home and the road, about starting over and over again? About who migrates and why?

Movement defines human history, and migration is only going to increase in years to come. Voices of Migration | Voces Migratorias seeks to share the stories of that movement. We’ll be speaking with people from around the world who have picked up their lives and moved to another place, whether temporarily or permanently, whether by choice or due to extreme circumstances, whether for work or for family or for freedom. Our aim is to offer a balanced view of migration, and to present the individual stories of people who move, their mix of local and global perspective, their reasons for moving, and what or where they call home in the world.

Hosted by Amy Mortensen and Daniel Shvartsman, the first season of Voices of Migration / Voces Migratorias will be primarily in Spanish. Some episodes this season and future seasons will likely be in English and potentially other languages.

Voices of Migration / Voces Migratorias debuts on January 7th, 2021, and will publish new interviews every Thursday. Subscribe to Voices of Migration / Voces Migratorias here:
